The University of Crete (https://en.uoc.gr/) is a young and dynamic Academic Institution committed to excellence in research and teaching. UOC has 17 Departments in 5 Faculties: Philosophy, Education, Social Sciences, Sciences & Technology and Medicine. There are more than 13,000 undergraduate and 2,000 postgraduate students, taught by an outward looking Academic Staff of over 700 (Faculty and supporting Teaching Staff) with experience in Higher Education Institutions worldwide. The research and associated educational/training opportunities of many groups within the University are expanded through their close collaboration with the Institutes of the Foundation for Research and Technology- Hellas (FORTH). According to The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, UOC has been ranked in the top 300 World Universities in five domains (Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry income, and International outlook) for 2014-2015.

The main UOC department participating in LIFECYCLE is the Department of Social Medicine with a staff of about 50 faculty members and research associates in the sections of Clinical Epidemiology, Environmental Epidemiology, Primary Care, Biostatistics, and Health Services. The Department is characterized by high quality pre-graduate and graduate courses, competitive and state of the art research achievements and implementation of fair academic procedures regarding the election or the promotion of the academic members by enacting and enforcing criteria of academic quality.
